Class compilation stories
Class compilation story 1
“Bang, bang, bang!” a knock at the door. My heart started pounding. I opened the door and guess who I saw?! Alex was standing at the door crying. I have never seen her cry before so I invited her in to talk. She explained that her pet turtle Robert had died. He was only 7 years old. He had a sister. Her name was Devon. It was tragic news. Alex cried for 10 minutes straight. Then I went to Alex and told her to stop. She was so upset, she turned away from me, crying and said “Leave me alone, stupid!” “You just knocked on the door and now you’re saying go away?!” I said, confused. Alex was so upset. I said to her, “Do you want to get a new pet?” Alex said, “No, nothing can make me happy since he died, you fool! Leave me alone.” “Well I can’t help you then.” I shut the door….BANG! Then Alex stormed off. She put her hands to her face and cried. Then she ran off and hid. She moved schools and everything. She didn’t like anyone anymore, not even her class. I wouldn’t blame her. I rang Alex. She answered “Hi.” She then cried and screamed in pain and hung up the phone. She had just found out her turtle hadn’t died, it had been murdered and the killer needed to stop her blabbing Obviously, I was worried. When Alex’s mum came home, she called the police. Her daughter was dead. They found footprints … it was … her father.
Class compilation story 2
“Wait up” called a familiar voice. I kept running, as fast as my legs could carry me, my lungs burning. I didn’t realize what was happening, I wanted to go home. I heard the voice come closer to me, I was scared. So I hid behind the wall. I could hear footsteps approaching me. It got louder and scarier, I began to scream. I felt something touching me at that split second. I started breathing heavily. I turned around, there was a man dressed in black clothes he was wearing a balaclava. He had a sword in his hand. No it wasn’t a man it was a monster, a man could not have that mean look in his eyes. He slowly took down his hood. I ran, ran and ran until I couldn’t hear or see him anymore. A man came closer to me; he was following me. I started to run, again. I was so scared. I could hear chainsaws and screams, my friend was dead. Emilia! I could barely see with the tears in my eyes. It was dark. I was so scared, lonely and frightened.
I felt a big part of my heart break. What am I going to do without her? I have no best friend anymore!! I’m so alone, nobody loves me. Not even my parents, or my siblings. What should I do now?? I don’t think my parents and my siblings like me, but they always tell me they do,but I don’t know? “Go ask them” said an inner voice.” They probably love you, stop saying that to yourself. They love you and stop saying they don’t.. They do.” “They don’t love me, leave me be” I argued with myself. I walked away dragging the feet slowly behind me.

The waves crashed against the rocks and it sounded like a thunder. The water gushed and poured all over the rocks it sounded like something was burning. Wait!! What is that floating in the water?? It looks like a body!! As I slowly got closer, I realised it was it WAS a body. I was thinking should I call for help or not? It was a ghost town, no one was out and about. It was quiet and somehow lonely. It suddenly started raining. I was scared so I ran home. A person followed me. I looked back and I saw that he was wearing all black and a hood over his head. I started running faster – I needed to get away. Soon he caught up and grabbed my arm. I turned around quickly to see it was only… Robert my best friend. He scared me so much. “Why did you follow me?” I asked him. (I think he likes me, I don’t like him though) He came too close and leaned in. I quickly pushed him away. “I saw a body floating in the water” I said, “Do you know who it is?” “Yes” he said. “I’m related to him and he was annoying so I pushed him in but I didn’t mean to push him that hard.” “What will we do now? Help me get him out or he will die? What will we do?” They ran into the water and saved him. He wasn’t breathing. The ambulance was called and he was taken to the hospital. The doctor said that he had a 50% chance that he might die. “What?!!” they said.

Famous artists
As part of our art project, everyone had to recreate a famous painting - some of our paintings are even better than original!
School debate team
Hard luck to the school debate team who were excellent in their debate against the Ursuline. Our girls proposed that "Water Conservation is not an important issue for Ireland."
South Eastern Science Fair
RDS Primary Science Fair
What a fantastic day! On 20th January, we boarded a bus bound for Mary Immaculate College in Limerick. We got through to the RDS Primary Science Fair and spent the day doing workshops, seeing projects and representing our school excellently in presenting our project "How does age and practice impact upon the Stroop Test result of primary pupils?"
Our Percussion instruments
The cold weather is getting to us! Today we brought in our percussion instruments to accompany the poem "Winter" by Aileen Fisher. We had plenty of shakers (with different materials inside to create different sounds) along with some other interesting ideas.

Ancient Egypt
We've spent the last two weeks, reading and learning about Ancient Egypt. Everyone papier-mached and painted their own King Tutankhamun mask and picked a topic to research for their project. One girl brought in some papyrus and another brought in a beautiful Egyptian dress and headdress. We also had many photos from different family holidays to Egypt.
The Stroop Effect
Our science project (linking in with Maths Week too!) was on the Stroop Effect. We completed the experiment on ourselves, 4th class and 1st class. We discovered age didn't have a big impact but practice did.
Reading hero
Two ladies from the library arrived on Tuesday October 11th to present a medal and certificate for participating in a Summer Reading Challenge. Well done!
Roald Dahl day
Roald Dahl's 100th birthday
The 13th of September 2016 would have marked Roald Dahl’s 100th birthday. He was born in 1916 in Wales to Norwegian parents. He was an oil consultant, a fighter pilot, a spy and an author. He died in November 1990 having led an extremely interesting life.
Roald Dahl went to a proper boys’ school when he was seven. Next to his school there was a sweet shop. In the sweet shop worked a grumpy old woman named Mrs Pratchett. He hated her so much that he and his friends made a plot against the woman. They had found a dead mouse under a floorboard at the back of the classroom. He placed the dead mouse into one of the sweet jars and when the old woman put in her hand to grab a sweet, instead she grabbed a dead mouse. He and his friends eventually got in trouble for it and they got caned. In his school he also got to taste chocolate bars and rate them out of ten. This gave him ideas for Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.
Roald was always passionate about travelling to exotic places and got his first job in Africa working for an oil company called Shell Oil. While he was living in Africa, a deadly snake tried to attack his friend but his friend killed the snake before it could harm him.
His second job was working in World War II as a fighter pilot. He fought in Libya in the desert and in Greece. Roald crashed his plane multiple times and one of the times he was partially blind and had to leave his job. He only liked training for the war, he didn’t enjoy fighting in the war.
After he was injured in the war, the army sent him to America to be a spy. He worked with the S.I.S. he got to know the man that wrote the James Bond books.
Roald then began to work with Walt Disney to make his first book “The Gremlins” into a movie. The movie ended up not being released and they never finished it.
Roald’s wife, Patricia was an actress. She won an Oscar because of her fantastic acting. He had five children. When his wife was three months pregnant with her daughter Lucy, Roald had lots of bad luck with his family. Patricia had the first of three strokes and couldn’t walk or talk. His son Theo got knocked over when he was in the pram, suffering brain damage and later dying, and his daughter Olivia died from a disease. His daughter Lucy is the only child that is alive and the character Matilda is based on her. Roald’s books mostly have a close friend or relative die because of his troubled and sad life. He later married a woman named Liccy.
He always loved the countryside and he never lived in the city. Lots of his books are based in the woods/countryside such as “Fantastic Mr Fox,” or “Danny, the Champion of the World.” He also wrote a book called “Boy” all about his life.
Roald is counted as one of the best storytellers of all time. He lived a fascinating and interesting life. His books will always be remembered by children and adults all over the world.
