School tour
On June 26th, we had our school tour out at Dunmore East Adventure Centre (AKA best tour ever!) We're into our last few days in primary school now, Graduation on June 30th at 6.30 :)
Amelia
The clearing and cleaning has started in the classroom, and as we took down our Amelia's, I had to take a picture of them. My Power Hour group made these a few months back to show the two different sides to Amelia, and the major changes her character went through during the novel "Amelia."
Maurice's retirement
Our beloved caretaker Maurice is retiring this summer. We all gathered in the hall on June 19th to say Thanks! Our class performed a song (written by Ella, Ava & Lily). I got chairs, I gotta stack!
More Mystery Skype
Our second Mystery Skype was on June 11th with Mr. Davignon's class from Montpellier, France. France is really big, it was hard to guess!! They taught us some French words and we taught them some Irish.

Well done Ella, our school spelling champion! Ella will represent our school in the County Final Eason Spelling Bee in April. Congratulations :)

Engineer's week
February 9th - 13th was Engineer's Week and we were chosen to go to WIT for a workshop on electronics and making brushbots (toothbrush-robots). We used the heads of toothbrushes, batteries, wires and motors to make our creations, and we even made the WIT Calmast twitter page.

Dance sequences
Having spent 2 weeks creating dance sequences to Madonna's "Holiday", each group put on an excellent performance.
Famous artist projects
Warhol, Kandinsky, Pollack and Van Gogh side-by-side. Thiebaud, Pollock, Warhol and Dali all together in one classroom! As part of our art project, each girl had to pick a famous artist, research them and then recreate some of their paintings.
Banking
On Friday January 30th, transition year students from Presentation came to our class to talk about banking. They run the bank in the secondary school and are doing a project with AIB.
Narrative writing
This term we're tackling narrative writing, and have started writing essays using our imagination. Here's a link girls, of sample narrative essays written by a 5th class.

Science Week 2014
As part of Science Week 2014, our class was chosen to go to WIT on November 11th for a workshop on Ireland's most famous scientist and local hero, Robert Boyle. We watched a scientist in costume test liquids to see if it's an acid or base (Alana helped him) and to experiment with air in a vacuum. It was an interesting and exciting day.
Certificates
We had a busy few days for certificates just before Halloween. Firstly, we all got out golf certificates from the First Tee. Secondly, our mayor, Lola O'Sullivan came to the school and two girls from our class got certificates for full attendance last year - Ella and Leigha :)
Cubs' donation to Sr. Helen
Sr. Helen came in to talk to 6th class on September 24th. She told us all about her work and life in the Philippines, and the awful typhoon which hit there last year. Some girls told their Cubs' group about her, and they decided to donate all of their loose change. The group filled a large jar and raised over €90 for Sr. Helen. Well done Lily, Sophie, Holly. Ella and Ava for your initiative and kindness.
Na Mothúcháin
Irish History Live
On Monday October 13th we walked down to Central Library for a history show. Here we learned all about World War 1 (which started 100 years ago in 1914). We got to try on costumes and examine artefacts and was a lovely Monday morning.
Our trip to New St Gardens and Greyfriars
Today I walked to Greyfriars gallery with my class, Ms Fetton and Ms Harte. We walked from our school to the gallery. It took us about 15 minutes to get there.
First we went to the New St. Garden and had our lunch. I sat next to Ella Murphy. It was really beautiful and warm. Ms Harte took pictures of us to put up on the website. We had a lot of fun at the garden.
After that we went to Greyfriars Art Gallery. We first of all had a look at all the paintings (which all had to do with Waterford) and just had a look around. Then we met a member of staff called Ciara. She asked us questions, showed us around and told us all about the paintings. Then we had to count out of the 35 paintings that were there how many were of Reginald’s Tower and there were only 7!
After that she showed us some of the paintings and told us a lot about it. Then we had to pick our favourites. I picked ‘Panoramic View of Waterford’ by Willem Van Der Hagen and it was painted in 1736. Although it wasn’t the real one and was only a copy it was my favourite.
Finally Ms Harte told us why she’d asked us to bring pen and paper. The reason was because she wanted us to COPY our favourite painting!! I did my best but don’t think it looked anything like the one on the wall.
After all that, we said thank you to Ciara and off we went back to school. I think I had the best fun anyone could have. Thanks Ms Harte. Thanks Ms Fetton.

We've been lucky enough to learn some French from a visiting French student, Lucie. Safe to say the class enjoyed their weekly French lessons ... Merci beaucoup Lucie!
Our Simile essays
Daisy the dog
Daisy is as white as snow and she is as soft as a cloud. She also is as strong as an ox. Her eyes are as black as coal. Her claws banging against the floor is as loud as a drum. She is as sweet as a song.
Daisy is as fast as a hare and when she plays catch she plays it until her legs could fall off. She eats like a Katie (like a savage). She also is as silly as fun.
She eats black bean and the beans are as black as the night. Her favourite drink is crystal clear water.
People rub her until their hands are sore and people go “Aw, she’s cute!” Daisy’s as happy as Larry and she goes over and gives them a big lick.

Isla the friendly wolf
Isla is a beautiful wolf. She is as soft as a cloud. Her tail is long and puffy and her eyes are as blue as the ocean. When she walks, she is as elegant as a swan, swimming gracefully down a river.
She likes to be with me always. When she is not, she worries dreadfully about me. Isla is very protective and likes to walk in front of me. When we are alone she becomes very playful and energetic and dances like there is no tomorrow. Isla is very intelligent all the same, and she is thoughtful when I am sad or angry she knows and always makes it better.
She likes to eat meat of course, she is a wolf after all but she also eats strawberries. She eats as fast as a cheetah runs but never gets any of it on her white fur. She is a lady. Isla drinks strawberry milk and water. Whenever anyone sees her eating strawberries, they all laugh but she does not care. All she has to do is growl and they will stop immediately.
Most people are frightened of her but my close friends and family know she is as sweet as a song to my friends, that is she doesn’t like who I don’t like. She is my best friend and the friendliest wolf I know. Even though she cannot speak we understand each other completely. After all, we have spent our whole lives together. We are one heart, one soul, one life.

Our Sounds Experiments
After revising that sound was caused by vibrations and moved in waves, we tried three new experiments; seeings sounds (rice particles jump) making funny sounds (straw oboes) and feeling sounds (talking through a balloon). It seems you're never too old for a straw oboe :)
